Tech magnate Sergey Brin, co-founder of Google, has added another impressive property to his real estate portfolio with the acquisition of a $35M mansion in Malibu, California.
Rumors about the buyer’s identity have been confirmed, as Brin purchased the stunning blufftop Point Dume estate. This move underscores Brin’s fondness for the Southern California area, where he has been spending a significant amount of time since 2020.
This acquisition aligns with Brin’s personal life changes, as he recently went through a separation from his second wife, Nicole Shanahan, in early 2022. The Point Dume property now serves as his bachelor pad, coinciding with his divorce proceedings. Interestingly, his previous Point Dume residence remains vacant and boarded up.
Brin has a history of acquiring homes formerly owned by rockstars. His first Malibu residence, once belonging to Pink, was part of his life from 2010 to 2016. The recently purchased mansion has its own claim to fame as well, previously owned by Pat Benatar from 1997 to 2003.
The property underwent significant renovations and expansions under the ownership of Scrubs creator Bill Lawrence before being sold to businessman Steve Buchanan for $21M in 2017. Buchanan then made a substantial profit when he sold it last year.
Built in 1953, the estate sits atop a high cliff, offering breathtaking views of the ocean and coastline. Despite its unassuming street presence, the gated property spans over 6,000 square meters, featuring six bedrooms and six bathrooms.
Notable amenities include two separate master suites, a state-of-the-art movie theater, a sleek gourmet kitchen, and multiple doors leading to various patios. The backyard boasts an infinity pool, wooden sundeck, fire-pit lounge, and BBQ center, all overlooking the ocean stretching toward Catalina Island.
The terraced backyard, spanning nearly one acre, features a zig-zagging wooden staircase leading to the serene beaches of Point Dume, a favorite location for other notable figures like Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sanchez.
Brin’s real estate holdings extend beyond Malibu, including a penthouse in New York City’s West Village and at least two luxurious homes in Los Altos Hills, Silicon Valley.
With an estimated net worth of approximately $100 billion, according to Forbes, Sergey Brin ranks among the world’s top ten wealthiest individuals.
